Most expensive homes bought in NYC:

A hedge fund billionaire, Ken Griffin, has purchased a Central Park penthouse apartment for $238 million — the most anyone has ever paid for a home in the United States. The unit, a nearly 24,000-square-foot combination of two apartments, is at the top of 220 Central Park South. Mr. Griffin, founder of the investment firm Citadel, holds the record for buying the most expensive apartment in Miami, a $60 million (the Faena House in Miami Beach). Last year he spent $58.75 million on a Chicago penthouse, a record for the city.

$88 million @ 15 Central Park West was bought in 2011 by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for his daughter Ekaterina. Now sources say that it is back on the market. When Rybolovlev picked up the 10-bedroom penthouse from former Citigroup Chairman Sandy Weill, it was the most expensive residential purchase in the city’s history.
$73.8 million at 520 Park Avenue (James Dyson, inventor of pricey vacuum cleaners and hair dryers). The penthouse comes with six bedrooms and more than 270 square feet of outdoor space.

Most expensive homes on the market:

$110 million - Woolworth Building’s “pinnacle”. The seven-floor penthouse will start at about 700 feet and will come with a 400-square-foot open-air observatory.
$88 million - 12 East 69th Street. The townhouse belongs to billionaire Vincent Viola who purchased this 19-room mansion back in 2005 for $20 million.
$85 million - The Atelier, 45th Floor @ 635 W 42nd St. The apartment comes with some sweet (read: completely outrageous) perks, including a $1 million yacht with docking fees for 5 years, two Rolls Royce Phantoms (one convertible and one hardtop because of course), dinner for two every week at Daniel for one year, a year of courtside season tickets to the Brooklyn Nets, and a Hamptons summer rental.
$77.7 million - Madison Square Park Tower @ 45 E 22nd St. The property encompasses the building’s 63rd, 64th, and 65th floors, creating a massive triplex penthouse measuring over 15,000 square feet. Thanks to the penthouse’s floor-to-ceiling windows, the views are some of the most spectacular NYC.

Retail space cost:

5th Ave, 49th-59th Street used to be the most expensive retail location in the world at 2,250 per sq. foot per year. Now it fell second to Causeway Bay in Hong Kong (2,671 per sq. foot).
